Ummm...
Not sure whether there is a rational reason for the twist on the old 54" Jaydub...
The original design evolution of the JW airfoils was that the airfoils were designed for the Sonic that Pat Bowman was kitting. This was a flying wing with sweep, similar in planform to Zagi, etc. The aerodynamic effects of sweep required washout due to the outward movement of lift that that sweep causes. Pat came up with the unswept JW via just taking the sweep out of the Sonic and still using the same washout. Later versions took out the washout if I remember correctly.
The above is from distant memory, hopefully I am not making mistakes in my memory!
Regards,
Joe
PS I still love flying a clean JW, it is has the best +/- flight characteristics. Might not be the absolute fastest for ds, but definitely has the best handling qualities for DS acro!

Here in Italy (I'm live in Monza, where the F1 race...) there is a small JW comunity spreaded on all the territory, and the JWs are meeting even frequently, both to flying all together, and to discuss about its unuque characteristic.
The question of the day is : wich were the reasons that suggested you to twist the tip cords of the first JW54" version, and why the leates JW60" version doesn't has any ttip twist ???
I'm a proud and veery satisfied owner of a JW60" sligtly enlarged to 64" .
Of course any further comment on the argment will be very apreciated.
Many thanks, best regards, and ciao,
